“You are what you eat.” This is a quote Ricky & Lucy’s Greenhouse in Sidney, NE lives by. Since its opening in 2003, the greenhouse has specialized in selling organic herbs, cleaning products, and a line of bath and body products. The herbs are hand planted, picked and bottled in a very ardous, yet loving manner. They are grown without the use of pesticides or fertilizers, making them 100% vigorous for your well being. Some of the more common herbs include basil, parsley, oregano, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Others include Italian seasoning, fish seasoning, spicy pepper blend, and the new, very popular Afrikan meat rub. There are over 70 blends to choose from, each labeled specifically on how to use them. Although the owners of the business, Teri and Dan Wolff, have been helping their customers realize the potential of organic living since 2003, they began living organically much earlier. Their three daughters were raised on many organic foods, including all organic beef purchased out of central Nebraska. The family always ate organically grown vegetables and fruits and drank organic milk. And of course, their three daughters have tried almost all of Teri’s herb blends! Along with the organic herbs the company sells, they also specialize in organically grown trees, shrubs, house plants, perennials and annuals. Once again, these plants are handled with loving care, and are 100% organically grown. Therefore, upon purchase of a tree, shrub, or plant, you are not bringing pesticides into your lawn or home. This goes to prove that Teri and Dan Wolff are very earth friendly people and are trying to protect our environment. They truly enjoy the beauty natural plant life brings to western Nebraska. Many people wonder….Where did Teri and Dan’s love for plant life and their business come from? Teri’s story begins within western Nebraska, in a little town called Chappell. Here she spent the majority of her time with her grandmother, who also shared her love for plants. Her grandmother was also very knowledgeable about horticulture and sharedher knowledge with Teri. As grandmother and granddaughter, the two would spend hours making new cuttings, starting new plants, and transplanting old ones. Teri carried her grandmother's spirit and her love of plants with her on her journey throughout life. She would constantly visit greenhouses and always dreamed of having one of her own. When Teri met her husband, Dan, and they started their family together, they wondered if this dream could become a reality. Dan had a background specializing in the construction business, and had been building for many years. He also came from a farming background therefore, he had a little experience with horticulture. With Teri’s unconditional love for plants and Dan’s construction abilities, they decided to build a greenhouse on their own. And so, Ricky & Lucy’s Country Greenhouse was born. It began in a 1904 limestone built barn on the family’s homestead, and is now made up of four different buildings, expanding over 10 beautiful acres filled with 20+ lush gardens. The goals of Ricky & Lucy’s Country Greenhouse are to provide their customers with healthy products for their families and the Earth and to provide excellent customer service. They are willing to make herb blends specified to customer’s orders and love to help with landscape ideas as well. The business is located about 8 miles northeast of Sidney, Nebraska in the beautiful countryside. In fact, many customers just come to walk around the beautiful gardens or to get ideas for their own homes. The business is open year round with the hours of 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. in the summer and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the winter.
