Dear friends,

New Year's greetings from Ricky & Lucy's Greenhouse!

The anticipation builds as we think of what 2009 will have in store for us. Change will certainly play its role this year on all fronts-haven't we always said you can learn most lessons of life (change included) from a garden?  :)  We will adapt as we always do, & how encouraging to think of the new possibilities ahead!

Some changes we want to tell you about include the option of U.S. Postal Shipping. Lucy's Signature Herb Blends and Spices can all be shipped via USPS Priority Mail and we can determine the most reasonable shipping method when you place your order. We are working with the Web Host people to fix it on the Web site.

Blending Herbs

We will be attending the Governor's Eco/Agri-Tourism Workshop in North Platte on Feb. 3-4, 2009.
They have been asked to speak on how to become an Eco/Agri tourism destination and will be a featured speaker at the event.
In addition, as part of the workshop, Dan and Teri will be part of a roundtable discussion on agritourism in Nebraska.
A "Taste of Nebraska" event on Tuesday night will feature samples of Nebraska foods, and Teri will be featuring her Signature Blends at the event and have items for sale.

NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO START THINKING AHEAD TO SPRING:
~ Cozy up with great gardening books, magazines & seed catalogs! Most of all, have fun, feel inspired & let those creative juices flow!

~Not sure what you want your gardens to look like?
We have posted photos of our gardens on the Web site so you can see what what the grounds look like in the spring and summer.

Shrubbery and perennials

~ Visualize your established gardens. Do you have relocations, new additions or any other renovations to ponder? Any trees or shrubs that need to be replaced? Early requests allow us to place our orders far enough in advance to ensure availability. At Ricky & Lucy's, we've been pleased to offer customized growing services for a number of years. If you are searching for something special, please let us know! We can start flats or cuttings of any flowers & vegetables of your choosing-we'll grow whatever quantities you'd like. Don't forget about hanging baskets! We take special orders on these as well-plan ahead, call us with requests & receive larger baskets in the spring.

Plants started in the Polyhouse
~ Lay the groundwork for new gardens. Winter provides plenty of "think time" to make those ideas a reality. Sketches, lists & related forms of organization will help you breathe a huge sigh of relief in the spring. Not certain you want to tackle the task yourself? We offer landscape design services that aim to please: personalized to the max with your interest at heart! No job is too big or too small; call us today to set up an appointment.

 Helping Children Go Green

~ Kids are great little helpers. Why not channel some of that excess winter energy & get them started on a project that yields educational benefits for a lifetime? Our do-it-yourself kits include everything needed to set up a cheery little garden on a kitchen windowsill. What a nice way to brighten up a room when it's gloomy outside! Something so simple as watching a seed grow can lighten any circumstance like depression, etc. Seeds are full of life! Choose from the following varieties:
Culinary Herb Kit

*
Culinary Herb Kit with four 4" pots, 6 kitchen herb seed packets (basil, dill, oregano, thyme, parsley & cilantro) & soil - $34.95

*Salsa Kit with four 4" pots, salsa cookbook, 6 chili pepper seed packets & soil - $34.95
Carrots for Kids Kit
*Carrots for Kids with container & tray, 2 bags of soil, baby carrot seeds, labels, marking pencil, stickers, activity booklet, bookmark & learner's guide - $34.95

We can't think of a better way to teach your children about all things growing-why not include them in your gardening plans? After they've completed their windowsill garden, encourage them to help you outside (when the weather permits) & with your houseplants, too. It's amazing what a bucket of potting soil, garden tools & a little imagination will do! Thank you for taking the time to give your kids this unique view of life!

Plant your own vegetables this year
~ Have you thought of the possibility of a vegetable garden?

Folks that put one in every year will tell you that fresh produce just doesn't get any better. The appalling cost of store produce combined with its inferior quality is reason alone to consider your own garden.
vegetable garden
For the cost of a few tasteless hothouse, pesticide-coated tomatoes, you can have a few tomato plants (even rare varieties) that will produce pounds & pounds of fresh, organic sun-ripened tomatoes straight off the vine!
 The Pumpkin Patch
Really, the idea of a vegetable garden doesn't have to be complicated & really is quite simple. The whole project can even be done in containers. There are a number of great books on the subject, & we'd be glad to help you every step of the way! Let us know what veggies you're looking for this year!
